”Trust
in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.” (Proverbs 3:5 NIV)
Sometimes our understanding can play tricks
on us. That, which at first seems a very wise handling of something, can later
prove to have been totally wrong. The problem is that we humans never have the
complete perspective. We only see parts of reality – never the whole picture.
Only God does that. Therefore it’s wise to obey today’s Bible verse. It doesn’t
seek to convince us not to use our understanding, rather that we simply
shouldn’t depend on it.
A friend preached
on this Bible verse, and to illustrate his point, he held his Bible in a strong
grip above his head. The gesture spoke loudly. God’s Word must have superiority
over our understanding. When we use our understanding in that way and trust in
the Lord with all our
hearts, God will bless both what we are and what we do.
Prayer
Father, thank you for creating me with an
intellect that you want me to exercise. Help me to use it to advantage.
However, above all else I want to trust in You with all my heart.
