”For
this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to
goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control,
perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, brotherly
kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love. For if you possess these qualities
in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and
unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.” (2 Peter 1:5-9 NIV)
I’ve always appreciated today’s Bible verse
that focuses on how we can rise to the complete balance in our Christian life.
It’s as though the verse rolls back and forth. It encourages us first to go
forward and then to hold back. Strength and knowledge is balanced by
self-control. Then take a step forward in perseverance, balanced by godliness
and brotherly kindness and love.
When one aspect
takes the upper hand an imbalance results and people get a lopsided picture of
who Jesus is and there is no fruit. Let us strive to have a balance in our
lives and in our Christian faith.
Prayer
Jesus, thank You that You want to remind me
about the importance of having a balance in my life together with You.
