”It
is better to take refuge in the LORD than to trust in man. It is better to take
refuge in the LORD than to trust in princes.” (Psalm 118:8-9 NIV)
The little family had for the first time
faced a large unforeseen expense. It caused premature anxiety. How would one
now handle all the daily expenses? How could the future for oneself and the
children be secured? The children were getting older and the expenses ever
greater. In a conversation where both the grown-ups were speaking with us the
woman, in her thirties, blurted out: I
know it’s our responsibility now, but I wish some mature person could step in
and correct the situation.
And of course we
can often feel the same way, not only when in our thirties, but also when we
reach higher, advanced ages. Sometimes it would be serendipitous if one could
be like a little child again, and hand over the responsibility to correct the
situation to a grown-up.
God knows that
even the oldest and wisest among us on occasion will also fall into situations
that are overwhelming. Therefore He wants to teach us to give our lives over to
Him. He is the only One who is mightier than the strongest opposition. He is
the only One who is greater than the largest problem. He is the only One who
can help.
Prayer
Lord, help me today to turn to You with all
problems. Thank You that no concerns are too small or trivial for You and that
no problem is so great that You don’t have a solution.
