"So
Paul and Barnabas spent considerable time there, speaking boldly for the Lord,
who confirmed the message of his grace by enabling them to do miraculous signs
and wonders…" (Acts
14:3 NIV)
In the Bible we can find many
encouragements and promises, which follow ‘the
law of cause and effect’. They always point to the fact that God wants to
cooperate with man. He says: ‘If you do
this, I will do that’.
When the will of God happens on earth there are usually two agents.
We human beings must do our part – we do the possible. Then God does his part.
He does the impossible.
Countless promises in the Bible are following
this principle. Jesus says: ‘Come to me
all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.’ (Matthew
11:28). Our part is to come to Jesus. His part is to give us rest. In John’s
first letter it says: ‘If we confess our
sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us
from all unrighteousness.’ (1 John 1:9). God expects from us that we do our
part: confess. Then he does his part. He forgives and cleanses us.
When God has
given a promise like these – you can find several in the Bible – he will not
act until you have done your part. But when you do your part you will see God’s
power released.
Prayer
Lord help me today to do my part, and in
still confidence await the fulfillment of Your promises to me.
