"Do
not be afraid of what you are about to suffer… Be faithful, even to the point
of death, and I will give you the crown of life…" (Revelation 2:10)
The Church in Smyrna is described as the suffering and poor
congregation, a church and a group of individuals, who in the midst of this was
nonetheless still rich. But the church's major problem was the fear.
Many churches and
many individual Christians today are also battling with fear - fear of the
future, fear of other people or fear of financial problems or illness. We know
that God holds the whole world in his hands, even me, and that he has
everything under control, but when we look at the circumstances surrounding us,
fear comes creeping in.
The opposite of
fear is boldness, and God wants his people to be full of just that - boldness!
God promises to all who win the victory over fear and live in boldness, they
will not be harmed by the ‘second death’, where all evil, including the
cowardly, will receive their punishment (Revelation 21:8). God wants us to be
boldly faithful to him because he wishes to give us the victor’s Crown Of Life.
Prayer
Jesus, today I want to defeat evil with
good. I want to conquer fear with boldness. Thank You for being present in my
struggle.
