January 14

“And I saw something else under the sun: In the place of judgment—wickedness was there, in the place of justice, wickedness was there..” (Eccl. 3:16 NIV)

Today our devotion deals with the place of righteousness. Righteousness has a God-given place in creation. Some would perhaps call it a law of nature. But after the fall of man the whole world is under the evil one. Isaiah describes this very vividly: “truth has stumbled in the public squares, and uprightness cannot enter. Truth is lacking, and he who departs from evil makes himself a prey.” (Isaiah 59:14-15) These are the living conditions under which humanity is bound to live today, up till the moment one receives Jesus as Lord and redeemer. Isaiah, who lived several hundred years before Jesus, prophesied also that in the future there would come a redeemer, who would bring justice to victory. Righteousness will once again enter into its God-given place in creation.
Jesus claims to be this Redeemer, the one that Isaiah prophesied about. He was the one, who would “proclaim justice to the Gentiles” and some day he will bring “justice to victory; and in His name the Gentiles will hope." (Mathew 12:18, 20-21)

Prayer
Thank you Jesus for the hope, that some day righteousness will be victorious. We now see
