“The fruit of righteousness will be peace; the effect of righteousness will be quietness and confidence forever. My people will live in peaceful dwelling places, in secure homes, in undisturbed places of rest.” (Isaiah 32:17-18 NIV)
The bible verse for today is about the effect of righteousness - or as the King James’ version puts it – the work of righteousness. Righteousness accomplishes something! Righteousness does what is right!
In many
countries corruption and poverty walk hand in hand. And a country with peace
and prosperity has often built their legislation and form of government on firm
foundations. Their legal system has been founded on certain immovable
principles well known to everyone. Right and wrong has not been determined by
unique and individual interests, but they have been established for the common
good. Often, they have been founded on Christian values.
The
Bible clearly connects peace and prosperity with the people who chose the way
of righteousness. This obviously does not mean that every rich person is
righteous and that all poor people are corrupt, but it confirms the basic
principle that it is worth doing what is right.
Prayer
Lord, help me today, to act righteously, even if it appears in short sight as if I am loosing.
