February 17

”Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion” (Hebrews 3:15)

It was the second day during one of our three-day courses for social workers. As usual we started with morning devotions and one of the course participants was responsible for the devotion. He started telling us that he recently had had an impulse to count the days that had passed since he became a Christian. That happened many years ago so he had come to the conclusion that he had been a Christian for more than 15000 days.
Then he told us that he had reflected on all these days, which he had received by God. What a fantastic gift – more than 15000 days received as a gift from God! But – he continued – how many days had he given to God?
Our lives consist of days that we have received from God. Also this day is such a gift. Ponder that you should give some of it back to God, as a love offering. Only you and God know what such a gift would be like on this particular day.

Prayer
Praise God who makes us wake in peace
And gives us this new day by grace alone
But this day will quickly depart just as the day before
So help us consider every precious moment of it.
