“The
Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's children.” (Rom
8:16)
Childhood provides certain privileges in relation to one’s father. One sure thing is that the father’s love is limitless. To be born into God’s family means that I, together with all God’s other children, am loved for who I am, regardless if my acts are good or not. The Love is not grounded in ’acts’ but in ’belonging’.
Another
thing is that God our Father’s love never ceases. He says to His children,
"I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with
loving-kindness. (Jer 31:3 NIV)
And,
it’s not only a love that never ceases but fatherhood itself never ends. A man
having an offspring witnesses to the fact that he will always be the child’s
father. Of course the child can behave similarly to ”the prodigal son” (Luke
11:15). The child can wander away from God and squander the good the Father
gave him. But, even then, the Father’s love doesn’t cease, reflecting the
parable clearly, which speaks more to who the Father is, than the sons who are
described there.
Prayer
Thank you God that your love never wavers. Thank you for never abdicating your fatherhood.
