” You,
my brothers, were called to be free… do not use your freedom to indulge the
sinful nature; rather, serve one another in love…I say, live by the Spirit, and
you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature.”
(Galathians
5:13,16 NIV)
Freedom is something that most strive for. The word has a positive ring. However, freedom only becomes meaningful if one can add to it the word ‘from’. If there is nothing from which one becomes free, freedom is without meaning. Freedom on the open seas only becomes meaningful if there is a shore to be reached or to return to. Otherwise, freedom is empty and an endless irritation.
As Christians, we are called to freedom from
sins slavery. Actually, we can do whatever we like. There are no boundaries,
however, in that we live in a fallen world and our spirit has its place in
human nature we must use our freedom with caution so that we don’t, simply
said, run aground and give the sinful
nature the possibility of taking control. Because, then we loose our freedom.
Paul tells us how we can navigate correctly.
We should allow the Spirit to lead us; the Holy Spirit, Jesus’ Spirit that
lives in us through our salvation in Jesus Christ.
Prayer
Lord, let me be led by Your Holy Spirit today in order that I can enjoy freedom fully. Let me rejoice in life and be thankful for those gifts You have given me and that which is my assignment this day.
