The power battle between light and dark reflects something very important. Darkness is a mighty force. It can disarm every act and enslave those who end up in this group. But, in spite of darkness sometimes being so powerfully packed, it cannot triumph over the smallest glint of light.
If one is in a lit room and open the door
out toward the dark night, it’s not the darkness that spills into the room but
instead, it's the streams of light that seek their way out and force away bits
of darkness.
If one lights a small, small candle in the
very darkest closet, the darkness has no might over the little candle. The
light’s power triumphs over the power of darkness.
It’s the same in our lives. The spiritual
darkness that sometimes seeks to extinguish all of life’s joys must yield when
we allow in God’s light.
Prayer
Jesus, You want us to live as light’s children today and carry the light’s fruit: goodness, righteousness and truth (Eph. 5:9). And if for some reason the flame be extinguished today, remind me that I need to turn to you and be rekindled anew; to You, the Light of the world.
