whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me
and for the gospel will save it.” (Mark 8:35 NIV)
Have you ever tried to hold a fistful pile
of sand? If so, you’ve noticed that the harder your grip, the more grains of
sand run out between your fingers. The only way to hold a pile of sand in one’s
hand is with an open hand. The pile of sand can simply rest in your hand.
Many people are
so anxious to create a life for themselves in this world that they forget that
which is truly crucial, namely, to live in step with that which God has planned
for their lives. To discard some of one’s own interests and make room for God
in life is like holding one’s life in an open hand. In actuality, it’s saving
one’s life.
Prayer
Jesus, Your gifts can
only be accepted in ’openness’. Help me to make room for You in the midst of
all that occurs in my life today.
