“But
Jesus said, “They need not go away; you give them something to eat.” They said
to him, “We have only five loaves here and two fish.” And he said, “Bring them here to me.”
(Matthew 14:16-18)
Bring
them here to me! Sometimes when we look at our
limited resources and compare them with the great needs, we forget that we
belong to a mighty God who is Lord of heaven and earth.
No one could have
reproached the disciples, if they looked a bit confused, when Jesus told them
to feed the five thousand men plus women and children. Not many of us would
have fathomed that the meager lunch a caring mother had prepared for her son,
could have any connection with the enormous feeding needing to be supplied.
Nonetheless, just think that in this large
crowd there was one who thought; ‘possibility’! - Andrew was there and
made the seemingly absurd comment: “Here
is a boy who has five loaves and two fishes.“ (John 6:8)
And so Jesus says the words that echo into the
21st century, in our Christmas preparations: “Bring it here to me!
For God it does
not matter if our resources are large or small by our meager standards. His
perspective is so completely different, whether there is a single drop or an
entire ocean, it doesn’t matter, just as long as it comes into His hands.
Prayer
Lord, I thank You that nothing is impossible
for You. Forgive us that we are so often blinded by focusing too much on our
own scarce resources. Give us faith that dares to give what we have to You, and
await a miracle.
