February 10

”Haughty eyes and a proud heart, the lamp of the wicked, are sin.”  (Proverbs 21:4)

A lantern is supposed to light up a small area. It does not shine very bright, just enough so that one can take a few steps. The Bible talks about lamps and lanterns in two ways. On one hand it talks about a lamp which lights up the way for the ungodly people – it is pride and haughtiness. Jesus warns us of this in Matthew 6:23”…but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!”
Psalm 119 speaks about another lamp – the Word of God, which lights up the path in front for those who want to follow the Lord. If we choose to be led by pride and haughtiness we will end up in sin, but if we choose to follow the Word of God, He will lead us right. We must ask ourselves which light it is that guide us in life?
Isaiah 35:8 tells about a highway - a holy way, where no one who is unclean may walk. The Word of God is enlightening this way. This Way is only for those who have been delivered by the Lord. And the most wonderful thing with this highway is that God has promised that once someone has entered the way ”even if they are fools, they shall not go astray”.

Prayer
Lord, I want to walk in Your light today. Help me to be guided by Your will and not by pride and haughtiness
