May 15

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. And God said, "Let there be light," and there was light.” (Genesis 1:1-3 NIV)

The Bible describes very briefly what existed prior to the earth’s creation. The earth was formless and empty. There was darkness, there was deepness, and there was water. It reads that the Spirit of God ”hovered” above the chaos, prior to the earth’s design, in accordance with God’s creation dictates.

When God then said that there should be light, there was light. When God said that there would come separate billows in the water, so it was. When God said the water would pool in a specific place in order that the dry places be visible, this occurred. God said the earth should bring forth greenery and seed bearing plants, and so it was. All that which God said in the story of creation occurred.
In the same manner as the Spirit of God hovered above the chaos prior to the creation His Spirit hovers above the chaos that is sometimes found in my life, and when He speaks His creation words over me order is restored.

Prayer
Holy Spirit, You who together with the Father and Son once created the world, You watch over me today. Thank You that You can create order out of chaos through Your word, and that darkness, at your command, becomes light
