”…
But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few
find it…" (Matthew
7:14 NIV)
When one of our sons was little, he
attended kindergarten. One day they taught about the human body. The teacher
was talking about how it looked inside the body and showed pictures of the
stomach, kidneys, lungs and heart. When they came to the heart our son raised
his hand and said: "It is where
Jesus lives". We do not know how the young teacher reacted, but our
son told his dad afterwards about the incident and said: "But they did not understand what I said." And so we had
to explain that the heart is a purely physical part of the body, but the Bible
also speaks of the heart as an invisible place in our innermost, our life
center, which can be filled with the self, but was actually created as the
place of intimate communion with the living God.
Since that day we
have tried to make our children aware that the vast majority of people do not
believe as we do. Most people do not want to know about Jesus and that He is a
contemporary ’actual and acting.’ The vast majority of people take a wide path,
even if it results in errors and there are few who will reach the narrow gate
that leads to Life. But we have also tried to explain that the majority is not
always right.
Prayer
Jesus, thank You that You want to enter into
and stay in our hearts. Thank you for wanting to take control of our lives and
thank you that we may walk the narrow path which is the only one that leads us
where we ought to go.
