"…
the oath he swore to our father Abraham: to rescue us from the hand of our
enemies, and to enable us to serve him without fear.”
(Luke 1:73-74 NIV)
The Lord has sworn an oath. He has signed
an everlasting covenant with Abraham. An oath – a covenant - is like a promise,
though stronger. Today this promise is for us who believe, because the promise
was given to Abraham, the father of faith.
And what God
promises us is, first, that He will yank us out of our enemies' hands.
Secondly, He promises us that we may serve Him without fear.
When we trust God
in our service, and are driven by and fulfilled by His love, there is no room
for fear. ‘There is no fear in love. But
perfect love drives out fear’ (1 John 4:18). And when we lean on the
promise that he will ‘rescue us from the hand of our enemies’ we can feel safe.
Prayer
Thank You Lord, that Your promises stand
fast.
Lift me up Lord, as Your
child
Loose me from the tempter's
web.
Teach me to live, live for
You,
Blessed in your love,
sacrificing myself.
(Psalm 45, Swedish hymnal)
