March 8

“I tell you the truth,” Jesus said to them, “no one who has left home or wife or brothers or parents or children for the sake of the kingdom of God will fail to receive many times as much in this age and, in the age to come, eternal life.” (Luke 18:29-30 NIV)

A few friends were sharing some thoughts about what it was like to live as Christians in today’s community. We spoke about the difficulties in evangelizing the postmodern person. We spoke about how one should approach persons who have a definite opinion about how their God ”must” appear, without taking into consideration the slightest reference to what the Bible says. Many of us agreed that it is difficult to witness in this age. However, we shared too of the privilege that is ours in having found faith in Jesus as the centre of our lives. And we reached a consensus that the foremost evangelization method is simply to live out the freedom and joy we find in Christ.
One in our midst shared that he’d heard someone say: ”It’s really wonderful to be able to live one’s life as a Christian, so that even, if at the end it was all in error, I still wouldn’t want to have it any other way.” And I’m of a mind to agree!

Prayer

Thank you Lord, for that wonderful life that You give to each Christian. Sometimes perhaps my life doesn’t appear all that glamorous in the world’s eyes, however, the peace that passes all understanding and joy in You outshines all.
