”…
and (He made) some to be pastors and teachers…”
(Ephesians 4:11 NIV)
Today we continue to look further at a few
personalities who will, ”prepare God's people for works of service, so that the
body of Christ may be built up” (Eph. 4:12 NIV). Today it concerns pastors and
teachers.
Pastors are truly
compassionate carers. Pastors do not find it difficult to care for others. They
love to express compassion. They are the ones who invite you home when others
seemingly don’t care. They ask you how you are and truly mean it. They are the
ones who have the patience to listen to your story even when told the tenth
time. There is a need for many pastors in God’s congregation because there are
limitations as to how many persons one pastor has time to show compassion for.
Finally it is the
teachers who are included in the
count in Ephesians fourth chapter. Teachers often find it easy to think
logically. They see the relative connection in the Bible that others pass by
and can instruct in a way that can be easily understood.
Both the evangelists
function that we spoke about yesterday and the teaching function are expository
functions, however, the evangelist has his focus on those who are not yet saved
while the teacher has his focus on teaching God’s people in order that they
grow as Christians. We pray today the same prayer as yesterday.
Prayer
Lord, help me to find
and recognize the responsibility that You have put aside just for me in the
Body of Christ. Thank You for making a place for me in Your Kingdom and for
creating me for a special function there.
