”Six
days you shall labor, but on the seventh day you shall rest; even during the
plowing season and harvest you must rest.”
(Exodus 34:21, NIV)
When God issued His instructions to Israel’s
people and renewed His covenant with them He was very careful to remind them
that they must observe the Sabbath day. In today’s stressed times many believe
they’ll get more done if they use and work all seven days.
However, listen
to today’s Bible verse: ”even during the plowing season and harvest you must
rest.” When stress is at its extreme, when you’re no longer lord of the work
demands and they’ve grabbed hold of you - then – you must have a day of rest.
But then there
are those who maintain that they’ll only be well rested if they use all seven
days to rest. But the Word says:”Six days you shall labor…” Humans are created
for the unique rhythm that results from the orderly exchange between labor and
rest. Six day’s work and one day’s rest.
Prayer
Lord, help me plan my
time in harmony with You, in order that I align my life in accordance with Your
instructions. Help me to designate a time to work, and also a time to rest.
