September 20

”We love because he first loved us…” (1 John 4:19 NIV)

When our children were small we often knew in advance when a childhood illness was on the way. If Chickenpox was evident at school or the day care center, then it was fairly predictable that soon 'number one' of our children would contract Chickenpox, and soon thereafter it would come to 'number two', and lastly, after a few more days, it would be time for 'number three'. Chickenpox is infectious. If one gets it, all get it – almost.
God’s love is also infectious. If we truly love, it is because we have been infected by God’s love. He is Love. And it has consequences, because if we have been infected by God’s love the likelihood is strong that we also will infect someone, with this Love that overcame us, and so it could be with God’s love as it was with Chickenpox. If one gets it, all get it – almost.
Prayer
Lord, may I live so near to You this day that I can’t help but be infected by Your love. And help me to also be in contact with other people today so that the Love infection can be spread wider.
