”This
is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead
of light because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the light,
and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. But
whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly
that what he has done has been done through God." (John 3:19-21 NIV)
If we are moving away from the light, we
first see a clear shadow of ourselves. The shadow is very distinct; however, it
becomes increasingly diffused the further we move away from the light until all
is black. This also applies to our spiritual plane. When I turn away from the
Light, Jesus Christ, I first see very clearly the individual ’self’, but the
further I move away from Him the more confused I become and enter a spiritual
darkness. It’s not always evident when darkness moves in on us.
If, on the other
hand, we are approaching the Light, we only see the Light. It doesn’t matter if
the darkness surrounds me, the Light still directs me the right way.
Sometimes when we
become all too self-centered, we ought to ask ourselves if we are on the way
toward or away from the Light.
Prayer
Jesus, thank You that You are the Light of
the World and those that follow You need not wander in darkness.
