"For
a long time Israel
was without the true God, without a priest to teach and without the law. But in
their distress they turned to the LORD, the God of Israel, and sought him, and he was
found by them."
(2 Chronicles 15:3-4 NIV)
Many people are indifferent to the
existential questions. We repress the question of life and death and the
meaning for our existence. It becomes too difficult to really work through the
questions and find the answer to the questions of why I exist, what is my
mission and vocation in life and what will happen once my life ends. Most of us
in the western world live relatively comfortable lives, where we quickly find
some diversion that helps avoid facing the questions.
But for all
people there will come times of need. This may involve illness, unemployment or
broken relationships. Some then choose to continue in denial of their plight
and seek to escape their situation by jumping into abuse of various kinds.
Others, however,
do what the people of Israel
did. When the need came, they turned to the Lord God of Israel - the true God - and they
experience that when they are seeking Him, He allows Himself to be found. Your test can be your testimony. Necessity will drive us to finally seek God, and when we
do so, we will find him.
Prayer
Lord thank You for the promise that we will
find You when we are really looking for you. Thank you for being a living God.
Thank You God of Israel, is "the true God".
