"…Go
out to the roads and country lanes and make them come in, so that my house will
be full.” (Luke
14:23 NIV)
As Christians we have an active
responsibility. Evangelism is not just about offering people a belief in God, but Jesus wants us to ensure that people come and fill His
house. In an old translation of the Bible it even says to us to compel people, i.e. beg for them to come
to Jesus. William Booth once said "The
church’s bell says welcome here, but the Salvation Army drum says,
‘go out and capture them’."
The Bible talks
about Christians as fishers of men, and - as someone put it: "Our mission is not to make an impression on
the fish. Our mission is to catch them." If we truly believe that
Jesus Christ died for all people in order to receive eternal life in Him, we
should perhaps be a little more daring in our evangelism and not hesitate when
God leads us to people who yearn for a goal and meaning in their lives.
Prayer
Lord, make me willing today to follow you as
you lead me to people who need you in their lives. Fill me with love and
respect for them and make me sensitive, in order that I can convey a divine
message from Yourself.
