Januar 5

"It is better to go to a house of mourning than to go to a house of feasting, for death is the destiny of every man; the living should take this to heart." (Eccl. 7:2 NIV)

In medicine the statistical chance of survival are regularly discussed among varying deceases. This can easily pass over the fact that life has a hundred percent mortality rate. Even if you survive a certain decease, sooner or later you will be ill again, and finally it will lead to death. Nobody dies in good health. You always die because something is wrong in your body. We die! Everyone dies! Sooner or later life is over. Sometimes we think that death could have waited. Sometimes we think that death could have chosen another victim. Death is never appropriate, death simply comes.

The Bible teaches that it is wise to think about death. It is wise to “to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom” (Psalm 90:12). If we realize that our lives will end, it will help us to get our priorities right in life. Jesus has overcome death, and those, who believe in Him, will not die but have eternal life together with Him.

Prayer
Lord, You don’t want us to fear death. Help us to be reconciled with the idea that our lives here on earth will end, and help us use every day with that perspective in mind. Help us to accept Your offer of eternal life – a life with a different dimension, that can begin here and now.
