March 4

"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness." (1 John 1:9 NIV)

This Bible verse has sometimes been referred to as ”the Christian’s soap”. We bring forth the verse when the Holy Spirit reminds us that we have sinned, and then we cleanse ourselves with the help of the words of the verse. The verse tells us we are to do one thing and God will do two things.
What we are to do is acknowledge our actions, which in Latin is the familiar confess. To confess is to echo the same thing as God says. When God points at sin in our life we agree with Him, instead of attempting to justify our action or to place the blame on others.
If we confess, it’s written in part, that God forgives and in part that He cleanses us. The forgiving He does in heaven, where He also erases the sin we have committed. But He also cleanses us. That, He accomplishes in our inner being and it is a wonderful occurrence. Even if we have sinned a great deal His promises are steadfast. If we confess, He forgives and cleanses us. Therefore every Christian living in this state can in fact sustain their purity. Not because he hasn't sinned, but on the grounds that he constantly washes himself with the ”Christians soap”. He confesses and receives forgiveness and cleansing.

Prayer

Thank You for Your blessing and the assurance that we can live a life of purity as Christians. Thank You for a life wherein we can continually rid ourselves of the sin that seeks to attach itself to us. We confess and receive a fresh forgiveness and cleansing from You.
