May 26

” All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.”
( Acts 2:4 NIV )

Devotion:
Today’s Bible verse describes what the people saw happen to the apostles on the first day of Pentecost. ”Tongues of fire” came over them and they began to speak with words that the Spirit gave them. The Holy Spirit has always been linked to God’s Holy Word. When Moses came to Mount Sinai and received God’s Word on stone tablets, God showed Himself through fire. It reads: ”the glory of the LORD looked like a consuming fire on top of the mountain”. (Exodus 24:17 NIV) Isaiah too accepted the call to preach the Word with a sign of fire. An angel touched his lips with a live coal. (Isaiah 6:6). And when Elijah wanted to prove to the false prophets that God was a true God, he asked God to send fire from heaven to consume Elijah’s offering. And God answered Elijah’s prayer. For Christians who today accept the call and assignment seriously the driving force can be experienced as a Holy Fire. It’s a fire that will not be content and rest until we have fulfilled that to which one is called.

Prayer:
Lord, I need to be touched of Your cleansing Fire today. Let Your Holy Spirit fall over me and be the driving force in my life.
